A Very Long View from the Jersey Shore

Far far away…
far beyond the ripples at my feet,
far beyond the ocean swells and valleys,
a tiny ship is receding in the gathering mist
as it sails on the curvature of time
and silently slips out of sight
beyond the thin line of the distant horizon,
blown by the winds of my imagination
to follow an ancient route mapped by the stars,
destined for the phantom isle of Avalon
which lay somewhere across the misty sea from Britain,
the isle where legend and Arthur’s Excalibur
were forged and where today ‘tis said
the king lies in rest with Guinevere awaiting the call
to return to his mythic throne.

Gene it is always magic and mystical when your pen hits paper and you transport us on another marvelous journey. Love and peace to you dear man. Carole~

'Tis not the journey Gene. 'Tis not the destination. 'Tis the marvelous description of the view you carefully painted in words for us that will endure long as Arthur and Excalibur. But I will keep a weary ear for the hint of a call for Guinevere. Avalon! On a cloudy day you can always see it clearly. I bid you love and peace my dear friend. Jon Michael

A beautiful dream, Gene. I sometimes need that.
I want to follow that "route mapped by the stars" right now! :)

I had half a notion to review this one simply with "Marry me." Sorry, Gene, I was overcome by the romance. I loved it all. Especially, "curvature of time," and "silently slips," and "follow an ancient route mapped by the stars." Truly beautiful.

Classical writing in every sense through this short novella of a journey to a mythical island. I was transported there upon the gales of your pen.

Gene this was magical, held my interest from first word to last. I felt like I was a passenger on that tiny ship.

Fantasy for sure but romance in depth, Gene.
How this sails and how it takes me along!
Glorious craft.

... there's certainly no lack of Pretenders for said throne, either, dear Gene. Arthurs and Guines are a'plenty, dotting about the holy hill of Glastonbury Tor (did you see the pix of the Supermoon from there, by the way?! Glorious!) And the mists over the Somerset Levels around said Isle have to be seen to be believed sometimes; you can sail away on and in the mystery of them for certain sure. Can you see me waving my apple-scented kerchief?! Given half a scrumpy, I guarantee you will! Salty and sirenic... my kinda write :)) xx

Gorgeously crafted words!

Yes, if only Morgan had not seduced Arthur there might have been a reconciliation!
I think Mark Twain thinks Guinevere's a bit shallow and I suppose she is, always loving whoever is strongest ( A Conn Yankee in King Arthur's Court)

Christine
