This Truly Horrendous Tragedy Was A Year Ago, Today;
And I Can’t Believe What This Guy Recently Had To Say:
“2010 Was The Best Year,
In Safety Performance,
In Our Company’s History!”
Transocean’s CEO
Eleven employees on their oil rig died
Over 200 Million Barrels of Oil, spilled
One of the Worst Disasters, in U.S. History
Yet, their chief executive is extremely thrilled
He’s thrilled, because he received a huge bonus
While so many Gulf Coast businesses, went under
Mile upon Mile of U.S. Coastline, were Decimated
Yet he got a Big Bonus, and a New Deal, to Plunder
This Oil CEO’s Yearly Bonus, and his Stock Options
And his Salary for 2010, were nearly Six Million Dollars
And now, our politicians are going to let them, do it again
Their ‘Best Year in Safety Performance’ he joyously hollers
And in the entire year, since this truly horrendous disaster
Our ‘leaders’ haven’t implemented one new safety regulation
Yet, they still proclaim that more drilling, will reduce gas prices
As the oil industry prepares to charge $5.00 per gallon, with elation
According to calculations by The Associated Press, the total value assigned to Transocean’s CEO’s compensation package in 2010 was $5.8 million.
This figure includes an $850,000 base salary — a whopping 34 percent increase from the prior year; perks totaling $622,057, which included extremely generous housing and vacation allowances; and a whopping $374,062 Bonus. Also included in this figure are his stock options valued at $1.9 million, and deferred shares valued at $2 million.
Yet, Transocean's Deepwater Horizon Oil Rig Explosion in the Gulf of Mexico a year ago, today killed 11 workers; set off the largest offshore oil disaster in U.S. history; ruined the livelihoods of thousands of American families and businesses; killed thousands and thousands of endangered marine animals and birds; and decimated mile upon mile of our once pristine coastal waters and shorelines, for countless generations to come.
Despite all of this, according to him, it was his company’s ‘best year ever in safety performance.’ That is one hell of a horrifying statement; and this year, they just can’t wait to do it all again.
And Now, Get Ready for $5.00 a Gallon Gasoline;
But Hey America, Don’t You Worry – Be Happy.
