Our writers' and poets' group asked us to do something in honor of the late Elizabeth Taylor for a book they are compiling. Here is my effort, though I will admit to not being much of an Elizabeth Taylor fan.

HOLLYWOOD BUTTEREFLY

Cleopatra

Butterfly

Coleoptera

Bright violet wings

Edged in kohl

Delicate exterior

But incredibly strong

On the inside

To say you flit and flutter

Would be to do you an injustice.

You soared unerringly

From one role

To another

From freshest Velvet

To an old decrepit Woolf

And in between

Became an Egyptian queen

Your touch

Seemingly melting

Seemingly infuriating

As your flight path

Took you from character

To character.

How many mates

Have you had

Butterfly?

I’ve lost count

A singer, an actor,

A tycoon or two

And even a blue-collar

Every day Joe

All stunned by

The beauty of your wings,

Your flight,

And the intoxicating pheromones

That waft behind

As you fly.

And now you are gone

Butterflies don’t live forever

And a new generation

Colorful, provocative,

Is always waiting

To take your place

Everywhere

But in our memories.

Chip, I'm of the opinion that you've done her justice, especially for an admitted "non fan," also a club to which I would admit to being a member. Still, she was beautiful and talented. Thanks Dick

Fine tribute, Chip, and i admire in particular
that you were able to rise above 'not being much of
an Elizabeth Taylor fan' to write this so well.
For me, she was outstanding.

Excellent review of Ms. Taylor, Chip, with just one
missing link. In her youth, there was no one to match
her incredible beauty. -gene.

Nice send off even though you said you don't care for her. She once said, "Yes, I have had a lot of men, but unlike others I married all of mine."
