I: a lone coyote
in desert of your dreams,
lit in sacred moonlight
near a pool reflecting
forever that would be
ours.
White wolf, alpha male, you
ignore my plaintiff wail, want
no howling half-breed here
beneath your painted sky,
condemn wildness that is
mine.
In retreat to snow-capped
mountains, you stop to drink.
There, you look in my eyes,
see it, too; don’t know what
you should do. Harsh choice is
yours.
I: a lone coyote
in desert of your dreams,
lit in sacred moonlight
near a pool reflecting
forever that would be
ours.
