He Placed His Heart Upon the Altar

He placed tired, fickle heart
upon the altar
For he thought such sacrifice
what God would have him do.

He failed to see tender Lamb
provided for him;
Plunged the knife into his soul
sliced straying heart in two.

She withdrew into herself,
cut off from mercy,
Withered on a single vine,
not knowing where to turn.

She failed to hear the Lion’s
bold courageous roar,
Lay down and lit a single
match, then began to burn.
