No word is wasted

No word is wasted
by the growling, grouchy
old clock of time.

Tic, tic, tic
the clock ticks
and life
like a restless sea
rises and falls.

Tic, tic, tic
the clock ticks
and time creepy
like a shadow
silently advances
the night and the day.

Tic, tic, tic,
the clock ticks
and the flame
of life slowly
burns its oil

till the bell tolls,
and the day dims,
and we surrender all.

Time takes us all. It's creeping is undiscerned until we reach a certain time in life when either illness or age tells us that our time is now near and the creeping begins.
