Red ribbon tied in silver hair –
I found her by her sewing chair.
The thread of life unwound and free –
I bent to kiss Miss Emily.
She’s gone to find eternity.
Like secret thought, I am alone
With fears and ills that are my own.
Our daily bread, now just for me –
Oh, how I loved Miss Emily.
She’s gone for an eternity.
I have what’s left—her golden rings.
But who will wear such precious things?
I have no one with love for me –
My heart belongs to Emily.
She rests now in eternity.
In grief I find so little peace.
I long for naught but sweet release.
Somewhere she waits for only me –
In time I’ll see Miss Emily.
I’ll find her in eternity.
