Ocean Whispers

Spent a long weekend at our usual summer retreat in St. Andrew's....and my soul is cleansed once again....

Sunshine clings to the ocean floor
Still drenched with tidal retreat,
Amid ghostly remnants of shells and wood
Washed white by the rolling sea!
Vigilant seagulls ride the wind
Scanning the vista below,
Searching for scrumptious tidal treats
Left behind in the sea’s ebbing flow!
Sailboats squeeze through the narrowing strait
Scant inches below their bow!
Treachery lurks in Neptune’s domain
But they always outsmart him somehow!
Sapphire blue the rippling sea
That beckons the soul to unwind
To live in this moment above all else
And rest in the arms of time!
My summer retreat to the seaside town
That rests against Neptune’s breast,
Puts vim and vigour into my stride
And fills my heart with zest!
The sea has always been part of me
Like an integral piece of my soul!
And without her gentle soothing touch
I would never truly be whole.
Life slows down for a little while
Then it’s back to bustle and din.
But my heart beats now with a gentle hiss
For the ocean whispers within!

Beautifully and dramatically written, Anna. The sea has a hypnotic hold on most people. With rolling waves or barely rippling water, to just sit and watch is soul touching and soul refreshing. It's wonderful that you have such a lovely retreat as St. Andrew.
