My Enigma

Jessica, easy to raise but hard to read and forever my baby girl.

What lies behind those russet eyes
In the wheels of constant turning
A mind so sharp and ever bright
Where a sea of thoughts lie churning

What words don’t part those pretty lips
What thoughts kept deep inside
Behind the smile, the clever quips
My angel, do you hide

So much like me, yet so much more
In beauty, strength and wit
On mountain tops I see you soar
O’re valleys streams and cliffs

Oh that I could pry your lovely mind
Impatient to behold
All your bounties, child of mine
… I’ll wait for their unfold

Janna,
I like the sense of wonder in your words; the amazement in this person you've created, and continue to watch grow. A nice rhythm in this poem, too. Great tribute.

It is always amazingly wonderful to look at our children and grandchildren and realize that they are the continuation of our lifes and our past. Your wonderment I think fills every parent or grandparent at some stage of their lives.
