Apocope =
The loss or omission of one or more
Syllables at the end of a word, for example:
“kind of” to “kinda.”

Apodal =
Without limbs, feet, or pelvic fins.


Apogamy =
Development of an embryo without prior fertilization.
Occurs in some ferns, algae, and fungi.


Apogee =
Farthest Point of Orbit from the Earth.


Apologue =
A Fable that is intended to teach a moral lesson,
Especially one using animals as characters.


Apothasis =
Rhetorical device of alluding to something
By denying that it will be mentioned, i.e.
“I will not bring up the question of age, now that you are Forty!”


Apophyge =
Outward curve atop an architectural Column
Where it joins the Capital, or at bottom,
Where it joins the Base.

Apoplexy =
A fit of Anger.


Aporia =
Confusion in establishing the Truth of a proposition.

Natural colors and bright markings on an animal
That warn predators that it is poisonous.

Apostasy =
Renunciation of a religious or political
Belief or allegiance.


Apostil =
Annotation, comment, or note in a margin (archaic).


Apostle =
Strong believer in an idea or cause,
Who tries to persuade others to share it.


Apothegm or Apophthegm =
Terse saying that embodies a certain truth, i.e.
“Haste makes waste!”


Apothecary =
A Pharmacist, or Pharmacy.


Apotheosize =
To elevate, glorify, or exalt somebody or something.


Apotropaic =
Intended to ward off Evil, or Bad Luck, i.e.
Holding a Cross in front of Matlack ...
