“I don't ask for the meaning of the song of a bird,

Or for the rising of the sun on a snowy morning.

Yet, there they are, and they are beautiful.”

The 112th Christmas Bird Count

Has started, all across our vast land

It’s a marvelous way, to help our birds

Involving a child in it, can truly be grand

For over one hundred years, it has taken place

From December 14th through the 5th of January

Many families have been involved, for generations

The Christmas Bird Count, fills bird lovers with glee

There is nothing quite as exhilarating, as arising before the dawn

To head out with binoculars, bird field guides, and bird checklists

The Christmas Bird Count helps make a difference in conservation

And being out and about in nature, can truly fill one’s soul with bliss

The National Audubon Society and other bird conservation groups

Use the data collected, to assess the health of bird populations, today

This is a wonderful way to help future generations of endangered birds

To get involved, click on the website below, and you can join right away

Too many species of Earth’s birds are in trouble, today

We have destroyed far too much, of their natural habitat

The Christmas Bird Count, and putting out food in winter

Will help these birds survive, there is little doubt about that

And, there is truly nothing quite as lovely,

As birds, on my snow-covered feeding station;

Our winged friends, add to the Holiday Season,

And like my pets, bring to me, Christmas Elation.

Watching birdies is immensely entertaining. Not too may exotic ones here in LA. I do see a few on the freeway though. Drivers here have no sense of humor. cuz.p
