Chair Rivers of Choices

Rushing waters in a hurry to get
somewhere for mankind another path
points all signposts with directions from
the straight and narrow roadway to sit
still a spell on solid ground observing
options for choices floating by

Becoming receptive of choices as a blade
of grass tickles your fancy for fishes
tempting of a swim reminding trees to lend
their limbs for a swing as cool shade invites
a nap of dream adventures basking in rivers
of many choices

Use rock foundation taking on perspective
chairing headstrong foaming waves into
channeling clear choices banking on the
journey downstream devoid of cluttering
debris amiss of sandbars stopping flow
to final destination with good intentions

"To the beginner the choices are few,
to the expert the choices are many."

Wojek Smallsoa, as quoted in
The Trio of Hands, 1962

Your words entice one to pause and reflect- doing so without even knowing so beside this river of choices.

What a pleasant journey reminiscent of Mark Twain's trips down the Mississippi reminiscent of Tom Sawyer and Huckleberry Finn.

There is a lot to be said for rock foundations for our choices but I think a few headstrong, foaming mistakes can make life more interesting. Must away and polish my expertise.

It's good, once in a while, to relax and contemplate our choices. Otherwise, we may be far downstream before we know it.

Love the quote, the picture, and the poem. I'd like to be sitting in a spot just like the one in your picture, right now.

Your verses flow like a river and I appreciate the philosophical point of view that you share through them, Vivian. Thank you. Love and best wishes,

Don't know how I missed this today, Vivian. I saw it in my In-Box, but it must have gotten deleted somehow. Anyway, I am here now.

Taking nature as a solid foundation as you expressed the human frailties' were some excellent metaphors within this gem of a poem.

. . . and we all know what the road to Hell is paved with, right? Good intentions. Fantastic writing here.
