This is part III of a poem that I originally posted last September with more recent installments being posted in the last few days. Parts IV & V will follow within the next few days.

Quoting the Wanderin Man, “I’m pickin up where I left off as I was tellin about a situation I got myself into a few years back. Like I said, I was hangin out in a little town along the border betwixt Texas an Mexico.”
Continued - Part III
Got the pedal to the metal,
grindin her through the gears,
runnin from the law,
and tryin to outrun the tears.
She’s a damn fine lookin gal
never even caught her name,
whatever she was into
it’s a pretty damn scary game.
Prob’ly best if I just dropped it,
dump’er an move along,
but I ain’t guilty of nothin,
I wasn’t doin nothin wrong.
B’sides, that goes agin my grain,
don’t like seein women used.
I kin turn the other way,
long as they ain’t abused.
Bout then her phone starts in a ringin,
caller’s name is Steve,
so I decided that I’d answer
he might be one who’ll grieve.
I put the phone on speaker
so I could talk an yet still drive
I pushed the answer button
an a mans voice asked, “You still alive?”
I asked, “Who are you a callin?”
He responded, “Mary Ann,
she’s my little sister
she’s a havin trouble with a man.”
I said, “The news ain’t good,
though I don’t fully understand,
yer little sister’s dead
an I’m still tryin ta make a plan.”
I told him what I knowed,
he thanked me fer my concern,
said, “The assholes who done this
have got a lesson ta learn.”
Said, “I ain’t never been a teacher,
but I’ve taken more’n one ta school,
if’n you could use a little help,
I got a good look at the fools.”
He said, “That’s mighty friendly
I might could use yer help.”
Said he had some biker friends,
they’d be a lookin ta take a scalp.
We made plans ta meet,
so he could take her car,
told him where I’d leave it,
near a friendly neighborhood bar.
Said he knew a friendly cop
he’d take care a things.
He an his sister were alone
but he knew she’d gain her wings.
So, I covered her with a blanket
Left her where I said she’d be
then I sat at the bar
ta see what I could see.
He showed up on a bike
with a couple of his friends.
Seein his sister in his eyes,
I offered ta help’em make amends.
His cop took charge of the body
I didn’t ask a lot a questions.
He, his biker friends an I
began plannin ta teach some lesson’s.
To be continued….

Ahh, you left me hanging so I'll be watching for the next chapter while dealing with the suspense left behind after reading this one.

Flaherty's Crossing by Kaylin

A compelling and imaginative story, not just about death but about life and emotional growth, a broken woman's journey towards learning to trust again...
