Today’s episode of The Wanderin Man is part IV with part V to follow within the next few days.

Quoting the Wanderin Man, “As I was sayin,"
His cop took charge of the body
I didn’t ask a lot a questions.
He, his biker friends an I
began plannin ta teach some lesson’s.

WANDERIN MAN
RUNNIN FROM THE LAW PART IV - “PAYBACKS”

Seems Mary Ann was under cover
tryin to take down “the man.”
She’d been gittin pretty close,
but fer a fatal flaw in her plan.

Somehow she’d been “outed”
an they’d had her on the run
she’d was a lookin fer some help
an I’d been her chosen one.

She’d been wearin a wire,
had gotten all they needed,
was tryin to get away,
but hadn’t quite succeeded.

Steve and his buddies,
though friendly with the law
were more like soldiers of fortune,
out to right a wrong.

Now the wrong was doubled,
there’d definitely be hell to pay.
They’d chase em to the end of the earth,
they’d never let em git away.

Livin on the edge
had been my way a life,
jist one a the many reasons
I’d had no time fer a wife.

I offered a helpin hand,
though my bankroll’s mighty small,
to even up the score
I’d gladly spend it all.

We started with the tapes
recorded from Mary Ann’s wire.
We were lookin fer an easy way
to hold their feet to the fire.

We picked up several names
an already knew the locations.
Within a couple days
we’d made all the preparations.

Seems they’d been smugglin
Mexican girls across the border,
then turning em into prostitutes
an things along that order.

They was a nasty bunch a fella’s
usin women wrong.
We were goin to set em straight
an it wouldn’t take us long.

We planned to round em up,
after we got em to trust us,
then haul them across the border
an teach em about Mexican justice.

We were going to take em down
no ifs, ands er maybes,
we set up a backroom card game
conned them into providin the ladies.

Given the right connections
an a table of friendly faces
we stacked the cards agin em
an we held all the aces.

Not a single shot was fired
the night we took em down.
Now every single one of em
has seen their last a this town.

An all them Mexican ladies
are back in their own homes,
older an a little wiser,
much less eager to roam.

Mary Ann has earned her wings
so it says in my song.
I sing it now an again
as I keep movin along.

To be continued…

This is awesome, Richard!!!! The imagery is truly vivid!!! Bet Johnny Paycheck could put music to this! Sounds like the kind of bad-ass stuff he sang about....well done!
