A collaborative effort from the pens of
Carole Mathys and Jon Michael Willey

A Lady Dressed in Trouble

she had almost a humid look
flushed with knowing eyes
she was young…precocious

living life at the edge of danger
on the prowl for trouble and more
morals weren't this dame’s suite

her voice had a finishing school flatness
that husky polish
rubbed there by money

she was a beauty…she knew it
scruples and ethics were for kids
so I tossed it around in my mind

her perfume was nice, light underlying
the kind that slips beneath your skin
making you wonder later why?
it hung in the air seductively

she slinked across the room
exposing a shapely leg nylon clad
as she draped herself on the corner of my desk

what did this broad want with a Shamus
I knew she had to have an angle
it just wasn't ringing my door bell

I had a gray feeling about this scene
I smelled trouble wrapped in a blue clinging dress
luring me into her fringe world of intrigue

I felt like I was listening to an old radio narrative of a flat foot dick about to get an interesting case.

Jon Michael, she does wonders.

Ah, I wrote a forties-gumshoe novel a couple of years ago just to get it out of my system. I called it Ram Slade (Sam Spade?). Hah! Turned out to be a pretty darn good book. This delightful collaboration put me in mind of it. Great poem!

If that's not background, or forefront for "Bogy". Your words bring the image immediately forward. What would this fashionably slinky broad want with a "Shamus", huh? The black bird possibly.
Good to hear from you again, Carole.
