“The ache for a home lives in all of us,
The safe place where we can go as we are,
And not be questioned.”
Maya Angelou
Music: You’ll Be In My Heart
It has been well over a month now
Since we trapped the homeless Hank
And, what a transformation has occurred
For helping him, so many are owed thanks
From the caring staff at our vet’s office
To the wonderful folks at a pet daycare
To the people who donated to his rehab
To those who shared his story, out there
When we trapped poor Hank, he was starving
And, he was deathly afraid, of we human beings
Today, he has gained back his weight, and his trust
To all who know him now, so much affection he brings
When he sees me today, he remembers that frigid day
In the back of my truck, when he had decided to trust me
He showers me with wet kisses and his tail wags non-stop
And, riding around town these days, truly fills him with glee
I was beginning to worry that he wouldn’t get a home
But a compassionate couple, has just adopted Hank
He’ll finally have the love and the attention he deserves
And to this wonderful man and woman, I give my thanks
There are so many ‘left behinds’ like Hank in our nation today
Abandoned, and abused, and neglected, all across our country
I sadly await the next telephone call, to help the next one in need
But every time that we find a home for one like Hank, I am happy
Everyone Who Helped Hank,
And, Of Course, Hank Himself,
Will Now, Always Be, In My Heart.
