She Waits...

A True Story

At one time she had pride of place
Complete with cosy wicker bed
Her memories of love-filled space
Of home, where she could rest her head
She waits

Her mind goes back to parkland walks
Of trotting close to owners feet
Furry friends and doggy talks
A regular canine spot to meet
She waits

Then one day riding in the car
She now recalls her owner’s tone
Was something wrong? They drove so far!
She's suddenly left all alone
She waits

Huddled, scared, in iron crate
So damp, so cold, and so forlorn
What happened, she can’t contemplate
Her loyal heart, so sorely torn
She waits

Depressed and frightened. Time is near
There’s no more love. It has been weeks
The walk of death, the stench of fear
Her tattered heart completely breaks.
She waits no more.

Don't send them away, they love you as their own.
Dogs are family too.

It's a damned shame what we're doing to Man's Best Friend today, all around the globe. And they truly deserve far better from us. I keep looking at Mark Barone's paintings, and my heart saddens a bit more every day now.

We have a throwaway consumer society. Most of us don't consider that sending more than a commodity we can buy, sell, or dispose of any way we want. It's our way of being free and, one day it will come back to haunt us.

SO MANY UNANSWERED QUESTIONS HERE. INSTEAD OF LOOKING FOR ANOTHER HOME OR EVEN A SHELTER...ONE CHOOSES TO COMPLETELY ABANDON...? I CAN'T UNDERSTAND IT...SO VERY SAD. THANKS FOR SHARING. LOVE, BLESSINGS AND FAITH...JOYCE * HIS INSPIRATIONS

Ruan,
Wonderful, you speak very well for our small friends. I could not conceive of Mia not being here with me. Far too many do as your verse states..it is the ones who do this that should be left alone without reprieve or love.

This breaks my heart. I have a precious little dog that I would not take anything for. To hurt him I could never conceive. This is a reality check because so many animals are out there cold and hungry and WAITING. Thank you for this...

Blessings,
+Linda
