To think for oneself might be the real “to be or not to be” call for the 21st.

Adrift and no island in sight
where as Koyczan suggested
"We are all shipwrecked on this idea
that everything must be explained"

How sublime this floating
taking us where our innate sense of direction
finds us that place
that anchor
that sometimes ice cream sundae
that Dodger Dog with onions
hold the mustard
that place where
who cares about us doesn't matter
who pays attention to us is ignored
that place where the tides deliver us
because we're willing to drift
with no island in sight

Where else can the moon
the sun
or the dastardly hurricanes
speak freely to us
show us the leaks in our boat
the ragged holes of our sails
the salty brine of our thirst
and still say welcome
you're free and not shipwrecked yet

How savagely we cling to other's ideas
the seaweed strewn shoreline
where we too
can find the FedEx box on shore
discover the coconut to make our friend
aloneness made puissant

Sand messages begging to relinquish rescue
solitary pain made surreal and intimate
delivering the ohm of the winds
the never ending reverberation of the gongs
the goddamn arrows of the oppressor
trying to pierce my heart
my hot dog
my ice cream sundae

Oh so evil they tell me
this explanation of a shipwreck
with no island in sight

The sign of our times. The boys of summer will never be the same. Somehow, in the twenty first century, they have changed. Great analogy of a shipwreck. I like Heilbroner's “ train of passengers, headed for the brink.”

I choose mustard over catsup. Much less sugar.

I read resourcefulness in these lines, a spinning compass that doesn't settle needle because True North is all directions. As Koyczan would call our fingerprints snowflakes, we choose. "delivering the ohm of the winds" exceptionally savory. ~~ Diana
