Continental Drift

My mind both full and empty,
my heart both found and lost,
I sit in a cell grown dusty
and calculate the cost.

While the world moves free, unfettered.

Its wheel spins far too fast.
Others might jump, undeterred,
I hold my breath…

...and pass.

What is the point to trying
when my strength is all but gone?

There is some peace in crying
and time keeps moving on,

whether with or without me.

I suppose I’ll watch and wait
until I forget to doubt me
and finally jump…

...to face my fate.
