Dedicated to Baby

 The Cycle of Life

A tiny bud forms on the branch

As does the rose bush fair

New leaves begin to form

Freshness fills the air

A baby cries its first new breath

New puppies wriggle about

Smiles cross our faces

Sweet tenderness doth sprout

To us they bring a warmth and love

They fill our lives, our souls are loved

Babies grow, puppies too

We watch them play, in morning dew

Alike they seem these little ones

Full of wonder, curiosity runs

The butterfly the child does reach

The puppy chases but in defeat

The child that laughs, the puppy barks

It makes us smile, to see their spark

While sitting we watch them in the park

Close friends as they grow

Throwing balls to and fro

The child’s a teen, where did time go

The puppy old, why can’t time slow

Many budding trees have spawned

Many leaves through years have gone

My faithful friend, my loving ones

Off to college you have gone

My faithful dog, weak old with age

Sits beside me, I turn a page

How we lament, where does time go

Can’t the years be somewhat slowed

With heavy heart, so full of love

I cradle him softly, a lasting hug

My tears will fall as have before

Many a love my heart has worn

Through windswept storms

I protected you my guard

I held you close, away from harm

As you protected me, nothing barred

My faithful companion, sweet Baby of mine

Alas you’re gone, unto the Divine

But in my heart, you do reside

We spoke of much, and I have cried

But upon my headboard

Thou urn shall rest

Near my head, or upon my chest

Evermore, my friend you’ll rest

As usual, this is moving and meaningful. Many of your verses remind me of the song, "What a Wonderful World." Thank you for sharing, Carol. Love and best wishes to you,
