My 500th title.

Another tune that pestered me awake in the middle of the night last night.

Thinking about that mournful day I walked out the door

Fairly certain that I would be back just like I had before

But something came between us

Like the moon between the sun

I let my brand new start eclipse your heart

Then our lovin’ ways were done

I know you tried to warn me each time I walked away

That I didn’t know just what I had that I really ought to stay

The grass is not always greener on the far side of the hill

And late at night I know you’re right and I guess I always will

The best days of my life are in the rear view mirror

I’ve traveled such a distance just to end up here

Regrettably now looking back it turned out like you said

And it’s looking like I’m running out of mileposts ahead

It’s clear I should have listened that wandering’s not for me

The illusion of that freedom now is plain to see

When that freedom turned to loneliness and another one night stand

I remember what you said to me as I left to roam this land

Now the best days of my life are in the rear view mirror

I’ve traveled such a distance just to end up here

Regrettably now looking back it turned out like you said

And it’s looking like I’m running out of mileposts ahead

As I approach my final off ramp and things begin to slow

I want to take this opportunity just to let you know

How much I’ve always loved you each and every day

I’d give all I have in this world - again to hear you say

Don’t let the best days of your life be the rear view mirror

Why would you travel anywhere when you could still be here

You won’t regret the fact that you stayed with me instead

Because we’ll celebrate together our last mileposts ahead

We’ll celebrate together our last mileposts ahead

Hah! Brought to mind "Texas in my Rear View Mirror," by Mac Davis, which in no way detracts from this gem of yours. Found myself trying to pick a tune to sing it by as I was reading the lyrics. Good song.
