Dedicated to Ed J.

 A Mother

We all have or had one

Some brought memories

Maybe not a  June Cleaver

But one thing you’ll see

If not for this woman

Not one would we be

Not one be inspired

Nor ability of prose

Not one to have heart

For this we all know

Some dried our tears and tied our shoes

Some went off to other places

Nothing else they could do

While others worked to keep us in braces

So now we thank you

Sometimes we were one of many

Mum barely had enough time

Some of us were the only

And some had none to confide

Some went gray early

For we scared them to death

Some stood up in morals

Our character they’d attest

Many wept tears

And some not a drop

As off we adventured

Even if we did flop

For there or not there

Lest us not forget

This beautiful vessel

Never lose who she is

The one who has formed us

With all of our prose

Dear one we love you

Even if not known

Dedicated to Ed J. whose mother just crossed over to the other side

My mother was a wonderful woman who worked hard. She was so gentle and kind to everyone Lily, I miss her so too.

This is a fine tribute, Angel. It is particularly poignant for me as I remember my mother whose suffering compelled her to leave this life (place) early and of her own choosing. Love and best wishes,

My thoughts go with you into this poem. And they go with you into the next moments and the ones after. May the moments bring you to the keyboard, or pencil and paper, standing in line somewhere, still holding this place you have made for your mother, all mothers and for yourself, as always being there. Great interjection of this delightful inclusion: "Some went gray early/For we scared them to death" ~~ Thank you for this. ~~ Diana
