a moment between Father and Daughter

She put her arms around my neck
Kissed my cheek with a childish peck
And said, “ tell me a story daddy, please
I’ll sit quite still upon your knees”
Looking deeply into her unwavering gaze
I marvelled at life and it’s marvellous ways
In her eyes I saw mine
Her children. my mother’s, all wrapped up in time
As her hand settled on mine like a miniature glove
My heart nearly broke with infinite love
She nestled her head against my chest
Saying, “ I can hear your heart, this is best
So tell me a story, daddy please”
And her voice was a whisper, a delicate breeze.

So I remember a story that I’d been told
By my father when I was as old
