you don't want to go in the desert

A poem about rocks and how hard it is to do stuff in deserts!

the wily wind will now begin
a trillion razors start to spin
this reckless wild wonder sculpts the dunes, their peaks and troughs
in desolate perfection its masterwork is wrought
weather beating, shelter-eating
a gory dry goodbye, its greeting
glass pixies riding mighty gusts
strip all flesh down to scattered dust
where once stood spires of alunite
lay withered skulls of starkest white
vultures stalking to and fro
where should be cliffs of firm gabbro
to say nothing of obsidian
stolen away to some evil end
in place of yellow orthoclase
carnivores give camels chase
but let's forget this talk of stone
as you are only meat and bone

Sounds like you've already been there. Not too many people would know a gabbro from an orthoclase. Let alone something as razor sharp as obsidan. Well written, well read. ~ Sara
