My father-in-law is gravely ill. He served proudly aboard the USS Enterprise during World War II. After completing his entire career in the military, he retired to Pensacola, Florida for awhile and is a huge fan of the Blue Angels where they are based. The government says about a thousand WWII veterans die each day. I’ve been aware of the statistics. Now it’s personal

Memories endure

Enterprise my Enterprise

My first lady love

Woos me to return

Irresistible whispers

As I close my eyes

I see the Angels

Blue beauties pointing the way

To eternity

Mission completed

Final orders to obey

As I always have

It's hard writing about these things, but I'm glad you did. He had many memories of his experiences on the Enterprise.

Extremely moving, strong, right to the point. Nothing maudlin, nothing heavy... clearly written for someone who keeps flying! Thank you for sharing.

Ditto to what Ed said. We owe our veterans so much more than what they ever receive. Stay strong for Eileen. You're all in my thoughts. Dick
