-What The Traveler In My Last Poem Sadly Faces Today-

“It makes no sense to spend tens of millions of dollars

To kill predators, especially in the way that it's done,

To the extent that it is now being done across America,

When it can have cascading effects through the ecosystem,

Unintended consequences, and even non-targeted victims.”

Bradley Bergstrom

Professor of Wildlife Biology,

Valdosta State University

While some of us advocate for animals

Our ‘leaders’ spend millions, on murder

To appease greedy special interest groups

And public outrage is not even being heard

Wildlife haters in Congress are now busy

Gutting the entire Endangered Species Act

Wolves were taken off, and are being killed

And now, Pacific Sea Lions, are under attack

We’re horridly condoning a bloody killing frenzy

Government snipers and trappers are everywhere

Helicopter Hunting, Leg Snares, Toxic Poisonings

All types of earthly life, are now in danger out there

The Sacramento Bee newspaper has published an investigation

Of all the government-sanctioned animal deaths in our nation

We’re now killing everything, from our eagles to family dogs

And not one nature or animal lover should be filled with elation

Traps, deadly poisons, and bounty hunters in the sky

Are horrendously killing bears, bobcats, birds, and pets

This has been going on for awhile, now it’s getting worse

And people like me see no signs of any public outrage yet

Wake Up America, before only America’s zoos will contain wildlife

And man’s best friend, is now in great danger, on outings to the woods

Hundreds of family pets have been maimed, and mutilated, and murdered

Even eagles are dying; all of this carnage, supposedly for ‘The Public Good’

This Three-Part Newspaper Article Is Linked Below;

Their Horrendous Findings Include The Following:

With bullets, steel traps, wire snares, and deadly poisons, government employees and contractors kill over 2.5 million animals a year now, and they have already killed more than 50,000 animals that were not a threat or a problem to anyone - including federally protected golden and bald eagles; more than 1,100 family pets; and several species of animals that are now considered to be imperiled or nearing extinction by biologists.

-Wake Up, America, Before It’s Too Late-

I can't see the "public good" one bit! There should be a back lash for sure against the "rancher lobby's" but sheep-like the govt. allows its agencies to follow their dicates and the public accepts it! There is a backlash in my life: i am forever "vegetarian" and fast becoming vegan! Everybody should become at least vegetarian. Not only is it good for your health but it will send a message to this "cattle culture" that began with shooting the buffalo, fencing the prairie and penning up the Indians... the sickness goes on even though it is no longer necessary.
when I finally get the chance to go West (which may be in 2013) I will NEVER FISH in Idaho maybe even Montana as long as they are carring these policies...
How sad, by the time I get out West it will be LOST!

Is this the "Hitler" solution for our beloved wildlife? I agree with the professor at Valdosta State University. Anything is better than this! BTW Here is some good news: Have you heard of the new technique of cleaning and dressing up stray animals while they are given a photograph at a professional setting? There are a few states that are using this method to attract new pet owners for stray animals. It's working! On the radio they said that the studio photographers are donating their time to do this and the results are that 2-3X more strays are being adopted because the strays have more people appeal. Now if they can just find a way to get these folks to honor their loving care and commitment to the pets for their lifetime. Amen!

ghandi was right

I guess either the outcry is not loud enough, nobody cares, especially government, if this is truly the state of Ameica, including this country, one has to wonder, if the Nazis haven't taken over on the sly, or at least their philosophy, they too, killed everything that was in their way, or inconvienient, they too, had millions in concentration camps, maybe not for slaughter, but as as a convienience for murder; This might not be racism, but it certailnly is specism, and not far removed from that sort of mind set. Bless ya!

'The Public Good' - how ironic that is!
and what exactly is that 'good'-
to maim, mutilate, torture, kill?
if only we could grow compassion, bottle
and sell it, but...

As always, Ed
