Rip Tide

I see her like a haunting ghost

On the peripheral of my heart

She said she’d love me always

Where does always end or start

I can’t forget sea salted kisses

Warm sand between bare toes

Emotions running hot and cold

The tide that comes and goes

Today I walked along the seashore

Hoping the sea might empathize

Cold North wind was little comfort

Nor the sea birds mournful cries

The horizon stretched on endlessly

Unlike my numbered days ahead

Tortured myself again remembering

All the things that I might have said

They say a rip tide grips a swimmer

Embracing them in death-like bliss

Like a lingering ghost of yesterday

Sealed with true love’s final kiss…

Wonderful and romantic, a beautiful expression of lost love captured in the imagery of the sea.

Such a beautiful poem of regret. One can almost feel, smell, and hear the seaside in your phrases. Thank you for sharing. I love that line too–brilliant.

Oh the yearnings of a melancholy heart...I could taste the sea salted air, feel the warm sand between my toes, hear the sea birds mournful cry...and feel the cold North wind on my back...a wonderfully haunting and atmospheric piece of writing that I experience to the utmost...
Brilliant!
