The Sweetest Secret
By La Belle Rouge

your love is the sweetest secret kept
pressed between the pages of my soul
like a vermillion rose pinned to a bodice
one long-ago night, its petals crushed
flat between your chest and my breasts
you still take away my breath even now
with the thought of kisses so seductive
my tongue tingles to taste your mouth
while my thoughts wing their way to you
once again...as they have so often done
my sad heart finds its comfort between
the warm sheets of your adoring words

do you find me there still, My Love
where we have frequently blended
our pounding hearts and crimson ink?
do you smile for me as I do for you?

sometimes itís so gloomy, my only flame,
candles of your dark eyes mirroring pale
in the night where sighs ascend like music
and lovers wrap themselves in a blanket of
softly shimmering starlight and moondust
and hide themselves in a garden of delights
your love is my treasure, my heartís muse
when all around me lay sorrow and despair
your love brings my forgotten beauty to life
a torch to fire the remains of my dried desire
electric dream to quicken the pulse of passion
your love, still the sweetest secret of my soul

You have touched my heart with the agony and the sweetness of your love; you have delved into the deepest place of desire as you speak your words of torment. Oh, so beautifully done La Belle. A keeper!

Love Jon Willey's comment, Belle, which I think speaks volumes. The form, diction and flow are sinuous yet rightly and tightly wrought to express the mood and passion each line contains and I'm really brought up short by this wonderful line which belies the rest of the poem's evergreen-ness:

your love brings my forgotten beauty to life

How can the intrinsic beauty of the soul that pens these words ever be forgotten? Yet here the reality of mortality versus the eternality of such love is starkly contrasted. Belle, you are at the very top of your game here and in a league of your first-class own. Superb romance! xx

Crushed between the pages of a writer's love. You have written much of this theme, but each poem is still superlative and meaningful. You have a real gift that you give the reader. Thank you.

Belle, love at this level cannot be fantasized nor written without the purity of personal experience to shape the emotions, the words with breathing passion and romance. Bravo, you heart speaks of your lover with an electric pulse. I wish you peace and joy my dear friend. Jon Michael

It is remarkable how words spoken within the first hour of the heart still continue striking anew and with the same beat. I find that rhythm irresistably sweet and the ardor of those delights bearing no less heat on those starlit nights where verses flow so freely from the heart and as passionate as the music of that same romance. It is only when it is heartfelt that inspiration is born and reborn.

This is fantastic love poem, La Belle. The last stanza resounds and captivates the reader (me) with its very intimate passages, such as my favorite, "my only flame, / candles of your dark eyes mirroring pale / in the night"

This was a joy to read and a delight to respond to its sensuousness.
