Things I Say in my Head

A memory of grand child( who is now 18!!)
She was standing there with a cute little bear
With her hair all over her face.
Her hands were brown and her socks turned down
In a dress all ribbons and lace.
She looked at me with a face from the past,
My son now at least twenty two!)
And my eyes grew warm,my emotions a storm
As I cuddled her close to my heart.
"Grandma, What do the clouds do all day?
And where does the sun go and hide?"
A thousand questions from one little tot
And this from one hour of play!
Joy of my heart. What a fine loving start
To a life that I pray will be long.
I looked at my son with a memory strong
Of the worries and cares of the past.
But now was the time while she was all mine
To cuddly, to love and to play.
To pass on the tale of the bear and the whale
And to listen and hear what she has to say.
When I was young and too worried to stop
The years had flown by in a flash.
But now that I'm older the years have grown colder
And I've lost all my zing and my dash.
Now I have time to stroll and to linger,
I have time to stop for a chatter.
Grandparenting's fine,and now it's all mine
And the change is all for the better.

|Beautiful, sentimental poem. It weaves together the memories of the past and the unique love for the child of your child.
Don't give up writing; you're too good for that!
