“A babe is a well-spring of pleasure,

A great messenger of peace and love,

A resting place for innocence on earth,

And a link between the angels and men.”

Martin Tupper

Music: Camelot

As I sit and I watch them play and explore

I begin to realize just how innocent they are

They have never wandered beyond our gate

Unlike myself, who has traveled much too far

They know not evil, cruelty, bigotry, or hate

They know not, all the great suffering out there

They play and they romp, not knowing the world

Oh to be just like them again, without a single care

They know not, that I buy their food at the grocers

But they are overjoyed at my return, and a gentle hug

They sniff through the bags, and find the puppy treats

Then they all rush back outside, to investigate a tiny bug

They know not, their pregnant mother was cruelly abandoned

Nor that it took me a very long time, to gain her complete trust

They know not, they are fortunate compared to others like them

Who languish in shelters, or roam the streets, and have it so tough

They know not, that the dog they peek in on, in the kennel out back

Has never known love, or kindness, or even had a home, his entire life

They look at me, as if to ask when he can come out and play with them

Then they spot a butterfly, and they rush off to chase after it with delight

And each evening, as my spouse and I, and all of them gather together

They know not, the many horrors the two of us see on the evening news

Instead, while the two of us very often feel sadness, or anger, or disgust

They contentedly curl up on our laps, and they enjoy their evening snooze

As I sit and I watch them play and explore,

I begin to realize just how innocent they are;

They have never wandered beyond our gate,

Unlike myself, who has traveled much too far.

lovely read! i'm so glad we have found each of our forever home waifs before they become so starved and afraid and ... they just cannot trust .

Even Sadie who was so abused finally grew to have hope, and love and love in return.

glad the puppies do not have those awful worries their tiny mom endured

They know not the cruel world that awaits them, why we allow them innocent creatures to be born into a life time of suffering for some, why? Bless ya!

O, to be innocent and carefree like these sweet, darling puppies! We'd be a lot better off; but thank GOD there are earth angels like you who DO care and are determined to change the world, one needy animal (and person) at a time! God bless you, Ed! Wonderful poem!

(((HUGS))) and much love, your friend in Texas, Karen Lynn. :)

The whole world loves puppies. Unfortunately they grow up to be dogs. And that changes everything. Hence our problem.

Great inspirational poetry Mr. Ed! We can learn much from our four-legged friends. Step one, how to wake up; step two, how to relax; step three, how to love others; step four, how to forgive; step five, how to be a friend; step six, how to care for others; and on and on...

If only, Ed, if only we could make enough changes that all these precious creatures could be safe and happy. All we can do is keep going for their sakes.

Look at those sweet beautiful faces. How precious they are. It continues to sadden me how mankind can be so cruel and heartless.
Mankind should learn from their innocence and love they show us.

Beautiful Mr. Ed, so much emotion and real life sharing of what all face day to day if only they open their eyes and wish to care.

Like a few have told me... write more! Continue to spread awareness
