"Nature never did betray the heart that loved her." Unknown

While strolling leisurely along
A path along a marsh
Jane came upon a fallen tree
With scattered branches strewn freely
The bark of which appeared to be
Weathered by winters harsh

Picked up one section of a branch
Noticing one round hole
Had been made by a certain bird
Of whose loud tapping often heard
To some this may seem quite absurd
But that sound soothed her soul

Nevertheless she walked on home
With her find in her clutch
Further inspection proved to show
That piece of branch was part hollow
Perhaps from termites even so
This needed little much

Or just some tender loving care
Nature had done the rest
The perfect bird house had been found
Hammer in hand a nail got pound
Onto a fence far from the ground
Safe keeping for a nest

Roof needed still to keep the rain
Out of this domecile
That taken care of did proceed
To notice this flat still in need
Fashioned a perch now done indeed
Jane gave a little smile

Dreaming one day a little bird
Will make this piece of tree
Which once had reached up to the sky
Then fell upon the ground to lie
Until a strolling passerby
Picked it up lovingly

Wonderful bird house story. I really wonder if we can do better than mother nature when it comes to making houses for birds–especially woodpeckers.
