Janus Just in Time

Janus looking back in January
At his annus as he might as well
Wonders why it has to be so very
Black and white with heaven or with hell
More like purgatory for the wary
Nor buying what those two have to sell

Looking in the mirror with two faces
Going through it and wondering who
We are seeing then exchanging places
Who we are being which of us two
Is the other coming to replace us
Reflecting each other when we do

Not that we do anything but wonder
Janus looking back in November
Around and round when over then under
Trying to forget we remember
Our dual confusion as illusion
Done once one has begun December

Janus just in time for January
Annus gone anus but come what may
Preaching the con to the temporary
Charlatans looking the other way
Say lay down your money and let us pray
We both forget now to remember

A thing or two for neither to forget:
No heaven yet nor hell but regret
