This Shopping Cart heart

Dirty streets
and dirtier hands
Weary eyes
watch the penny land
Into the fountain
the wishes go
Featherless wings
feel the cold wind blow

This boy has been
stained and soiled
My own lonely dreams
have been boiled away
in the pity shining
in the eyes
While a pity-filled smile
caused their lips
to
rise

Muted colors in a
green and khaki world
I watch as daily
life
unfurls
Tossed and quickly beaten
any sunshine
this cold damp street
and I
we have eaten

Soulless shoes
for a soleless man
All my riches hoarded away
in a single can
Hiding myself
this world has stripped me bare

Look deep
in these sad broken eyes
and say if
you
could ever care where I slept
If on this corner you could,
if you would,
protect me
as false freedom tempts

Could you love
this shopping cart heart?
Steal me from myself
and set this heart free
It only costs the penny
that you stood
and watched land
Into the watery grave
full of wishes
all those happy people made

It only costs the penny
that you stood
and watched land
Deep in clean water
Was this too
dirty
a hand?

I'll wash it
with
wishes
that i've hidden
inside
I stole them
and i broke them
They're here
roughly tied
Deep
deep
in the bottom
of this
shopping cart heart

With a penny smile
save me
Make me
your Art.
