Last for friendship week...

Another close friend,

Unfortunately I did not have him till his end,

Away he had to be adopted,

Love him I did & will till my eventual end…

We used to walk the Sea Isle beach,

He was my buddy, my friend, my confidant,

So much more to me did he of life, teach,

He helped keep me sane, or at least of it, in reach…

He was “just a dog” some said,

He loved to sleep on my bed,

To me he was more than any other,

Of love he did for me smother…

No other can of him replace,

To me he was never base, but a top hand ace,

Of Rene’s horse Sinders he did love to chase,

He was the best, to replace him will be a hard case…

He came to me of late in a dream,

The one and only time I have of him dreamed,

I think he was saying good bye for now, <tears>

His time to leave this earth had come,

And he came back to tell me in his own way,

I hope to again see him on some distant day…

Ed, I'm with Patrick on this one. I've been through a number of painful breakups and it seems the loneliness and sadness linger,,,,,, until a better one comes along. Soon you're laughing and smiling again. Seems like it would work with a four legged friend too. I'd certainly give it a try. Dick

I think you are right, Ed, Rufus came to guide you, to love another 'animal', another spirited soul. I've been lucky enough to kitty-sit one of five we gave to good homes two weeks ago. She is such a sweetie! As were her four siblings! Any new life, human or animal, is a welcome distraction from life.. :)

They are never just a dog, or cat, or other loving part of the family. They are family and the love you so unconditionally. I share how you feel for him for I have loved many furry and feather friends who had to leave me.

Blessings

Rufus was more than your pet, he was your companion, your brother. No matter what other dogs come your way in the future, you will always hold a special place in your heart for him as you have shown in this fine poem to his memory.

I recall that sad time for you. He cannot be replaced precisely, but you would be amazed how quickly another mutt could dry those tears and tug your heartstrings. Give it a shot. cuz p
