Father's Day Without My Son

A father writes about his loss on Father's Day.

Today is Father's Day and most fathers are out celebrating and attending barbecues with their children, but not me!

I lost Steven in December, 2006 and so today on Father's day, my day will be incomplete because my son is no longer with me.

The barbecues that he always had at his house in his backyard is now only a memory of times gone by.

My son and I were very close and he always remembered to invite me to his many barbecues. I never had to remind him of  the holiday. It was foremost in his mind because it was about me, his father and best friend.

Today, is an empty day for this father who has loved and lost this most important friend, but I will fill my day with memories and with thanks that I had the honor and privilege of sharing 39 years of my life with the best son a father could ever hope to have.

On this Father's day, I know that we both are thinking of each other, you from the Heavens above and me from my heart. Happy Father's day Steve. I love you.

Dad

I can't even pretend to understand the pain of losing a son at such a young age. I'm sure your heart is full of pain but also full of wonderful precious memories. Have faith that you son is watching over you.

Peter,
for a parent to lose a child is devastating at any age, try to remember the good 39 years on this day.

It is doubly hard to face Father's Day when you've lost a son. I don't have any children and my father is dead. So I chose to think of the day like any other and celebrate what I can of the life that I have. I know your so would want you to do the same.
