Shadow Of A Doubt

~*~

I sat in my garden

Of serenest meditating

Cleansing my mind

On a gray rainy day.

Descending upon me

I witnessed

A dark shadow wings flopping

In utter silence.

It perched atop

My enclosed screened garden

With wings spread

A hawk I thought

Or was it?

I was at awe.

I slowly

Reached for my camera

The shutter clicked

Endlessly

The shadow never moved

Nor took flight.

I lost track of time

I woke startled

From the comfort

Of a rocking chair

The shadow was gone

No longer there.

I thought

Was I was dreaming?

Did I see it, or was it

Just a shadow of a doubt?

Alert

No longer confused

I reached for my camera

To review its contents.

Again

I was left at awe

With its total magnificence

No longer

A shadow of a doubt.

William,
Sometimes we only have a split second to capture that moment in time. You did this beautifully..the pic and verses.

Beautiful without a shadow of a doubt. I'm jealous and bow to your pen as awakening all I see from my porch is an angry blue jay. Where is my cell camera when I need it. ENJOYED SEEING WITH YOUR EYES.

I do that too, trying to watch a bird takeoff from the high tension wires behind my house. The hawks are the hardest to identify. Every time I hope to see one takeoff, I somehow am sleeping or distracted. But you have the picture for evidence, and I like you, couldn't identify what kind of hawk it is.

That's why I don't like eye witness accounts.

As I love to take pictures as well, I usually have my NIKON close by no matter where I go or what I do and I have discovered they do seem to have a mind of their own. Driving down a country lane not far from where I live was an old red barn, a heritage site that once was part of a farm asylum. Anyway something told me to take a picture or two of it, I did, and the next day I read in the news that it had burned to the ground.
