Wild Birds

Bird watching is a tranquil past time.

A wild bird flies by

In search of one favored tree

Perched high in the tree top

He sings a blissful melody

The yard is suddenly transformed

To a happy light-hearted place

As he hops from branch to branch

Only he knows why he's come

Gracefully poised on a limb

Barely visible from behind a leaf

This wild bird awaits

He watches as the feeder sways

Back and forth in the warm breeze

This wild bird is cautious by nature

The yard is not yet serene

When the moment is right

Down he flies to perch on the feeder

If the stillness lasts he can get a drink and a quick bath

Adjacent stands a bath designed for birds

Just when he begins to enjoy himself

The moment is stole away

By another bird that has appeared

To take part in this simple pleasure

So off he flies knowing he will return another day

To eat of the seeds

And drink the fresh water

Other birds perch on the fence nearby

They are waiting for their turn

It seems a fitting way

To escape the summer heat...for wild birds.

Daily I sit in nature and observe, most often nature brings me inspiration for all I write (most times). To observe and be a part of nature is beautiful. To understand nature is a gift not many have time for sadly.

Beautiful write Karen, I echo Jane you have walked us through the experience of being there.
