I wrote this during a sad time,a misunderstanding

You say you’ve loved me for thirty years

Then please believe what you’re about to hear

I’ve been lovin you for so long

How could you think I’d do you wrong

Things ain’t always what they seem

I wish I could make you believe

That I’m the same girl that you’ve loved

That I have never given up

You’ll never know how hard I’ve tried

to get over you and how I’ve cried

If all we ever are is friends

Then I can begin my life again

Things ain’t always what they seem

I wish I could make you believe

That I’m the same girl that you’ve loved

That I have never given up

I think about you day and night

I miss the arms that held me tight

I just can’t bear the pain

That you would ever think I’d changed

Things ain’t always what they seem

I wish I could make you believe

That I have loved you all these years too

And I would never be untrue to you

Misunderstandings are often the cause of a breakup. Unfortunately, your poem indicates that there was some breach that could not be crossed. It's so sad to hear that.

Marylou,
well done sorry it had to go that way.

Such a sad lament. It's cast a shadow on your soul.
Clearly and tightly written.
We can't turn the clock back, but it sure can be rewound.
