I did my time,
A good 35 years ago,
I learned the lesson taught,
No longer against society have I fought…
Nowadays there are too many jail cells,
To be the same person I was then,
A crazy, irresponsible young kid I was way back when,
Now when to the beach I go, I only hunt shells…
I paid my debt to society,
Yes, to them I did pay the fee,
I keep that, in my head, memory,
For if I did not, never again would I in person,
See my beloved sea…

| Great write Ed. I can relate. I love the water and freedom it brings and I don't care to see the inside of a sing sing. Well by now you must know Ed that I visit incarcerated teens almost every week. They live in a youth camp that has a 78% success rate. Of course, the state wants to close it down. Over 500 citizens protested and to keep the camp open but unless a miracle happens soon it closes for good August 31st. Yes, one of the reasons I visit troubled youth is because I was one of them. God bless you brother! |

I can't imagine not being able to spend time by the ocean...there's nothing like it! Glad you're determined to keep your freedome, Ed!

For you, the straight hasn't been too narrow. The sea beckons…

| Motivation comes in all forms Ed. If your view of the sea is spoiled when looking through bars, it only makes sense to avoid the bars and from your past posts, I'm guessing you avoid all types of "bars" these days. Nice work, if you can get it. Dick |

Ed,
Many have been there, at least you saw not to be there again, you should always have your sea near you.

Sometimes I wonder if the cells of our minds and our moral society are every bit as imprisoning as the steel bars of the county lock-up but yes I would be lost if I were to never see my beloved Atlantic Ocean again.

Too true, Ed. As we've heard all our lives, 'Youth is wasted on the young.' And we're only now really understanding it, as we age. Ha!
Wish I could walk the beach by the sea.. :)
