This poem compares walking in a perennial garden to spiritual growth.

Walking daily in
The perennial garden
I see changes.

Where is the
Beginning and
Where the end?

Snow covers the
Ground in winter
Snow melts; the
Garden looks forlorn,
Forsaken.

I walk on in the perennial garden.

Sun warms the
Earth; plants
Come alive;
Green shoots sprout
From the ground.
Today I see
Daffodil blooms;
Tomorrow I see
Withered flowers
On the stem;

Simultaneous
Beginning and ending;
Alpha and Omega
Cannot be separated.

I continue to walk among
The perennial beds.

The garden becomes
Lush with spring
Rains; buds appear;
Lupines, lilies,
Peonies unfold
In riotous colours.
The ground of
Nature's being
Unfolds in glory.

This is not
Beginning nor
Yet the ending;
It is journey.

Summer leans into
Autumn, giving
Bronze, red, and
Gold glow; plant
Leaves die back;
Ground once more
Exposed, opening to
Receive seeds for next
Year's resurrection
Of the land.

Alpha and Omega;
Beginning and end.

I walk daily in the
Perennial garden,
Journeying on.
