This was written at a time of extreme sadness after the end of the relationship with whom I thought was the love of my life. I'm over it now but at the time I was devastated. It's true that time heals and I'm so very glad I've been able to move on. I actually wrote it to the tune of legendary 1970's crooner, Gilbert O'Sullivan's poignant song "Nothing Rhymes". I'm just showcasing my additional talents in poetry writing.

If I look at my face in a mirror

I’m not sure that I like what I see

If I look at my life … with its trouble and strife

It’s not hard to wish I wasn’t me

Coz I look at the past and I wonder

Thinking everything fell into place

I was happy one day … then it all went away

Now I’m left with sad tears on my face

Nothing’s here,

Nothing’s there,

I’ve no future

Nothing for me to look forward to

When dark clouds hover by

Bringing tears to my eye

And good memories are hidden from view

I can’t help make a fuss

When it all turned to dust

And I’m picking up fragments

Of all that I lost

I would cry if I could

Wouldn’t do any good

Say Goodbye

There’ve been others in my situation

Who thought, that they too had it made

They could sing out for joy… be they girl or a boy

Since the cards that were dealt had been played

But I’m looking alone at that mirror

No one there beside me anymore

Coz it didn’t last long … turned around, he was gone

And the light that went out

Left me trembling in doubt

Was I not meant to know …

What true love was about?

But truth can’t lie to me

Cos it’s now plain to see

Say Goodbye

I’m the old-fashioned kind, married him in my mind

Thought I’d found what it took all of my life just to find

But my judgement was poor

And he walked out the door,

Say Goodbye

At the end of the day

There’s no more left to say

… But goodbye!
