A Red Tailed Hawk called, circled about 50 feet overhead; ascended; I did morning Tai Chi filled with her energy; she bade farewell, unseen above our oak trees. WOW! Photo: Courtesy Cornell Lab [ItsAboutTheLight SM]

High pitched whistle- screech

above cool-morning oak tree shadows,

 red tail luminescence in the sun’s light

proclaims a presence so powerful,

all is motionless except your flight:

gentle turn, slow glide, swirl in soft air;

suspended on gracious wings of intention;

allowing witness to deep spirit -

until you ascend to sky.

My soul fills with your quiet splendor,

we merge in humble Tai Chi movement:

            ecstatic flight of slow, arching motion,

            floating together in vibrant air without thought -

a perfection of movement.  I am complete.

Deep bow of thankfulness for this grace, this peace,

                        this perfection.

High-pitched whistle-screech

above cool-morning oak tree shadows -

we are now one.

Your kinship with nature shines through your verses here, Vicky. Red-tailed hawks are quite common around here and I never tire of watching them ride the thermals... Thank you. Love and best wishes,

A lovely poem about the oneness of our vision of the splendor of flight demonstrated by birds of prey like the red tail hawk. I just love to watch hawks fly.

The Red Tail is a magnificent hunter, as is your write about him.
