The Other Nation

the drums beat a rhythm all their own...voices raised in celebration
as the dance evoles into a frenzy momements around the fire
this is a holy night for all in attendance...a sacred night of joy
they are the people of the earth...people of natures wild

they come to one with the creatures of mother earth...father sky
the land speaks to them...tells them how it should be
they return to the earth what they have taken...they respect the land
they teach their young of the respect...the love...the freedom

yet there is trouble within their hearts for the strangers who appear
the ones who take...do not give back...the ones who do not care
they say it is all theirs...not to be shared...not to be respected
only to be plundered...abandoned when all is gone

tonight...all will be forgotten as they rejoice of their sacred beliefs
clelbrate what was given them in trust...trom the beginning of time
to thank the spirits for the times they were a protected people
for tomorrow they knew there would be tears shed by all

There never was one nation. There were at least six hundred tribes, most decimated by disease long before their land was taken. There was always war among the tribes, but there was a good life in between, close to nature and living well within it. Thanks for writing about the other nation.
