Acid Words

Can you hear the words I'm so desperately trying to speak?
Falling from my lips like drops of acid,
So quickly, yet not fast enough.
Streaks gliding down my cheeks,
I stand here, exposed, bare and afraid.
Afraid of what tomorrow shall bring,
Will I be standing alone when I dare to glance to each side?
Are you able to listen to my misery?
Listen so intently, you'd do anything,
Anything to make all the hurt go away.
Risk burning yourself just to stop
The acid dripping from my mouth and tears.
Can you prove you love me as you claim?
Reassure me just often enough that I wouldn't think to question?
Can you understand the words I'm so desperately trying to speak,
Falling from my lips like drops of acid,
Before I melt all this away into a picture of yesterday,
With no hope for a picture of tomorrow.
Will you risk it,
Or, perhaps, will you just turn,
Turn with your back facing me as it all falls away,
Never to look back.

Just how long would it take for you to not "think to question" his love? How many hoops would he have to jump through after you had been satisfied that he loved you? Acid words, indeed.

I can't believe anyone who would be attracted to acid words unless it was some sort of masochist who enjoys being abused Verbally. Perhaps you are just lashing out at a situation that you can't escape.
