Goddess on the Bayou

sultry August heat
hardly any wind
she lay tranquil, murmuring
tender undecipherable words
ending with the soft-hiss of Cher*
my Goddess and me, that's a fact
beneath gnarled, knobby cypress trees
of a south Louisiana bayou

©July 14, 2012 / Jerry Pat Bolton

*Cher – Term of endearment in south Louisiana, pronounced "sha."

We sometimes forget how much comfort and acceptance nature provides. Instead, we try so desperately to find it with the opposite sex... and the same sex, only to find rejection more the norm than the sultry moisture that nourishes the cypress. When will man wake up and release his bridled confinement to societal identity alone. There's many a gnarled and weathered existence out there willing to just...BE for our growth and pleasure. This may not be your purpose, but August heat effects readers too... even in July. What's that saying: anticipation is greater than reality.

What a beautiful picture you have painted here! I've always loved to listen to people from southern Lousiana talk! Sometimes I don't even understand them but the sounds are so lovely

Love ya!

You have recalled, recreated, and shared the experience (and ambiance) very effectively via your verses, Jerry. Thank you. Love and best wishes,

Glad you clarified that word, as all I could think was that the goddess was a lesbian and like the singer Cher...;-) e
