A poem that searched for and found Christ

So you get the inkling that you know

Who God is and who God ain’t

You try to put it in plain folk language

Like He being the beginning and the ending

And the first and the last

And them who cast their lot with Him will be saved.

But, then you ask, saved? Saved?

You just wants to know is it a from what?

Or a for what?

Or a to what?

Seeing as by the time

You think you got the answer

Three score and ten be bout run its course

And, of course, you done your dirt

Averting your eyes and surprised

When like a pouncing tiger they rise

And strike a death-blow.

You know about death

And the stare in the eyes

Of those standing at the door

Waiting for Lazarus to rise

And the anxious cries

When nobody come forth

No grave clothes drop away

And nobody speak a word

And nobody say:

Loose that man, and let him go.”

So you know, that you know,

That you know, that you know,

That you know, that you know

That you don’t know…But, you do hope

Because love hopes all things

Even though sometimes

You don’t feel love for nothing.

But, the word on the street say worship

The word down from Sinai, say worship

In the spirit, and in the truth

And you know spirit

Is more than Hezekiah Walker walkin’ ya

And Kurt Franklin talkin’ ya

So you test the spirit to see if it’s real

And you know you had it shine on you

Break you into a thousand tears

Then calm your fears

Speaking peace in your windstorm

Making you face forward

Then go forward

Cause tomorrow be destiny

And the past is gone…

As gone…

As the last lover you played.

So you have stayed

Down in the sistah-circle

Dancing down the demons

Screaming for just joy

To play upon your heartstrings

Just faith to magnify your spirit

Just Jesus to fill the doubting places

Of your soul!
