Reflections

When I feel the sadness of the years

That should have been so glad

And blessed with seams

Of lovely moments

Strung on dreams,

I cry—

And, when I hear the sea at dawn

Filling the sand with sound

And coloured things,

Contouring waves

And ripple streams,

I say—

Before all time and tide is done,

All the reflections in the sun

Could not project a perfect light

Or search the stormy sea within

To reveal the Everlasting One

I love—

Breathtaking!
Reviewed by Diana Legun (Reader) 8/1/2012
I like the tempo of this poem. I like the visual form, the three stanzas ending with: "I cry-, I say-, I love-" The contingency of "seams" of moments, as though the moments are sewn together. Then moments "Strung on dreams," makes me think of pop beads, more connectings. "Filling the sand with sound" surely gives the reader an audial reminder of how, after a wave retreats from the shore, a rice-krispie sound is left behind. The last two lines leave me with a feeling that there is so much mystery in the "Everlasting One" that it can not be known. Very substantial piece of writing! ~~ Diana
