To dream upon the moonlight, brings a child to happiness through the stories they are told. Read to the children, they are our future. ~Lily of Lough Neagh~

 Land of Nod

Whilst softly sleeping in my room

A dream hath flown to me

Into my chambers sleeping mind

A mystic stands for me

He beckons me with arm outstretched

My fingers he doth seek

And sprinkles radiant crystal dust

Transformed we take the leap

To the land of Nod we fly

To see paths carved below

The visions cast afore our eyes

A quilt of patches sewn

A butterfly on golden wings

Becomes our gentle steed

A journey through this magic world

He only has to lead

Cream puff clouds a sweetness taste

A handful we did snatch

As we glide upon our way

Oh see that lemon grass!

Alight we do on Glycerin Sea

It giggles as we walk

We bounce our way to sugar shores

We roll and laugh a lot!

Seashells sugared cookie sweet

We pocket as we go

Gingerbread cars and gum drop tires

So much we can behold!

Aladdin’s carpet floats ahead

For us to take a seat

We climb on board and take a ride

We rise above blue streets

Unto the night we tarry on

O’er housetops as we go

Oh look there is ole crabby’s house

With his light aglow

What fun we had to tease the man

Until our parents told

We float afore my window pane

With little stars for steps

I quietly tip toe into bed

While all the others slept

Thank you mystic for my ride

I know it’s time to go

Until another dream doth come

Oh bother, mama’s crowed

Wow! I'm impressed. Not a "theme" or "genre" I thought about you. This is delightfully magical and inviting. Such a gift, Carol. Thank you for sharing it. Love and best wishes from me,

The Land of Nod - what a truly marvelous place to be,
Except for Ole Crabby's House - sounds like Ole Ed Matlack to me!

I was leaning against my pillow, sheets pulled up
Holding my breath not to disturb anything
(even my mouth was open in amazement)
For a moment I was a little child again
You took my hand and leaded me to the Land of Nod
This was fantastic Carolee, you gave me back my childhood

I love this! This took me back to my childhood. I loved when someone would read things to me like this! (sigh!)

Love ya!

I like this one; the cadence is good, with neat, flowing rhythmic syllable sequences. I think that when poets get this right, verse flows much like the sound of a train moving on its tracks - you have that here. The use of 'hath', 'doth' etc is both natural and correct. The only thing I didn't like was the break with four line verse to six and back to four - it disrupts the flowing pattern of verse. Also, I would prefer the use of 'into' in verse nine rather than 'unto', which I am more accustomed to hearing in such expressions as 'even unto death'. I may be quite wrong in this though.
For me, the key to the success of this poem is its crystal clear, concise imagery, which I have no doubt is an absolute treasure to children - and to me!

This is really good Lilly, I agree with some of the others here. You should write a children's book! Our daughter would like that we read to her.

Delightful. No one read to me as a child so I missed out. Indeed you should consider writing stories and books for children. Your talent is just as strong in that field.

Stay well and keep writing

What a wonderful child's story Lily, you walked us through all of it. I read to Aaron often and he enjoys it. You are very good!

Oh boy, what a delightful and wonderful experience you have given us. There is so much "flavor" ingrained in this stunning tale told that I was dizzy trying to grab it all and quite stuffed by the time you got yourself back in your bed. I particularly was most fond of the gumdrop tires.
