“Sky watchers say that there is nothing more captivating

Than a close encounter between the slender crescent moon and Venus —

Nothing that is, except for the crescent moon, Venus, and a flurry of Perseids.”

Astronomer Tony Phillips

Music: Nocturne

I was out on yet another rescue mission

In search of yet another abandoned canine

When I perched in the brush peering skyward

And soon observed a heavenly sight quite divine

There above me was the bright crescent moon

With the planet Venus, illuminated in the sky

And a flurry of white meteors darting all about

A sight truly worth seeing with my own two eyes

They say these meteors have been dancing about

Since the time of Christ, some 2,000 years past

They are named after Perseus, the son of Zeus

Who chopped off the evil Medusa’s head at last

What a marvelous sight to behold on this summer’s night

What magical images were now being displayed up above

And what a stark contrast to the reason I was now out here

In search of another outcast, devoid of a home, and of love

I finally stopped gazing skyward, and I began looking all around

Praying to the heavens that this night, this outcast could be found

-To Be Continued-

The "outcast" continues to be a metaphoric symbol of failure for man. We are so quick to forget we are but "part" of the whole, and a canine, a meteor may not have the same feeling as man, but who are we to judge they should be relegated to any less importance than our 3 car garage, our nail and hair coiffing sessions to help us think we are still alive amidst our deplorable sense of what it is to do what's right. Oh, how desperate do we cling to the fantasy of living.

You have me in anticipation for tonight Ed!!
As too I am looking forward to the next few weeks
as the moon phases continue bringing us into moonless
nights as I like to look at the Milkyway

You were drawn to the sky Mr. Ed,
to observe this magnificent sight!
Nature was telling you in their
own way the beauty they wanted to
reveal to you while in your own
mission to save the outcasts in
your own beauty.

It was their comfort sign to you

I have been trying to capture a fawn
it is without a mother and seen
along Memorial Drive for nearly
3 weeks now. If I had not had
my grandson in the car with me
Monday (he is only 9 months old)
I would have stopped and brought
it in the car!

Keep up your beautiful mission sweetheart!
Nature approves and so do the rest of us :)

You are a marvellous nature writer and a passionate poet. Love your sympathy and kindness to animals particularly canines. All outcasts have a home in your heart and this one shall soon be found. thanks Ed.
