Grist for the Mill of Government

It used to be hard to tell the truth sometimes. Now it is hard to know know the truth sometimes. It's a frightening world we live in these days.

Grist for the Mill of Government

Fragile.
Ever growing brittle rule
Overbearing critical fools
Governing with sadly dedicated lies
Agile.
Testing boundaries preset
Breaking traditions long met
Over reaching, the truth is cleanly excised
Magill.
Rare, a name, such as this
Democracy becomes. The grist
For the mills of Liberty for you and I
I will.
Love my country soundly
Declare my devotion loudly
Wastefully spending our freedom, we decry!

The sounds of unrest in this poem percolate with the flavor of discourse given by individuals interviewed on Bill Moyers' journal. The sounds are echoed by countless other voices, but this one poem serves to overlay those dialogues in your skillfully- written diagnoses, prognoses and treatment. "....sadly dedicated lies" packs conviction and compassion in one bite. Excising the truth --- what a clinical spin this is, delivering the slice by using the word 'cleanly', which offers connotation associated with planned surgery: removing the truth tumor. That is a titanium illumination. Besides all of that....the music in the sound of this read aloud is utterly magnificent. ~~ Diana
